Schedule: I’m looking forward to teaching your child this year in physical education. We have a rotating ABC schedule where students rotate to a different special every 3 days. These days will be posted on the Hacker MS Calendar on the website. See Below for which day your child has P.E. (a, B, or C).
Shoes: It is important that on A days your child comes to P.E. with adequate footwear (no sandals, flip flops, heavy boots, etc…). Any closed towed sneaker or tennis shoe with a non-marking sole will be fine.
Injury/Sickness: If your student is NOT to participate in Physical Education due to injury or illness he/she needs to come with a note. A simple note explaining why your child cannot participate and the time period the child will be affected by this injury/illness is fine if it is temporary (1 day). If the child cannot participate for extended (more than a day) periods of time or frequently cannot participate, please bring a doctor’s note explaining the limitations and duration that he/she is to be excused. Please have the doctor be specific in what your child can or cannot do as far as physical activity. I have exercise bikes and some alternative activities that children can do if their doctor specifies they can do some activity. If they are unable to participate in physical activities they will be assigned written work for points. Doctor’s notes are followed exactly as prescribed. If the note says, “No P.E.” students will be assigned a written assignment.
Attire: PE will be outside much of the fall and spring. Please have them come prepared with what they need to participate in our outside curriculum.
Heat/Smoke: The gymnasium does not have air conditioning. It gets hot, often times it actually cooler to be outside than stay in. If smoke is persistent in the air we will follow the district’s air quality guidelines.
Grading: Each day students can earn 15 points. 5 points for stretching, 5 points for participation in a cardiovascular activity (usually a running activity, and 5 points for learning and following the rules of the activity/lesson. Grades are entered once a week and their total points will show 15 or 30 for the week depending upon whether they have P.E. once that week or twice. These points determine their quarter grades and end of the year grade, so it is important that your child come ready to participate in P.E.
Contact: If you have any questions about P.E. class, please feel free to contact me at school at 587-2500 before or after school or send an email. I try to get back to people that same day but due to lack of phone and computer access sometimes it will be the following day.
Thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Vogt P.E. Instructor Hacker Middle School Mountain Home, Idaho
