SCHEDULE: I am looking forward to teaching your child this year in Physical Education. Your student has PE on a rotating schedule, either on an A, B, or C day. It is important that your child comes to PE with adequate footwear on those days. Hacker is using a rotating schedule where student rotate between PE, Music and Computers on A, B, and C days. These days are posted on the Hacker School Calendar on the website.
SHOES: Students at Hacker are not required to have special PE shoes. Usually any closed toe sneaker or tennis type shoe with a non-marking sole works fine. SANDALS or FLIPFLOPSof any type are NOT acceptable.
INJURY/SICKNESS: If your student is not to participate in PE due to injury or illness he/she needs to come with a note. A simple note explaining why your child cannot participate and the time period the child will be affected by this injury/illness will be fine in most cases. If a child becomes unable to participate for extended periods of time or frequently cannot participate, please bring a doctor’s note explaining the problem and the length of time that he or she is to be excused. Students who are unable to participate in physical activities will be given a written activity. These written activities are graded and fulfill their daily participation grade. If a child is able to ride an exercise bike during their injury that can be substituted in lieu of a written assignment. Doctor’s notes are followed exactly as prescribed. If it says, “No P.E.” the student will be given a written assignment.
ATTIRE: PE will be outside much of the Fall and Spring. Please have them come with what they need to participate in our outside curriculum.
GRADING: Each day students can earn 5 points for stretching, participation in a cardiovascular activity (usually a running activity), and learning and following the rules of the lesson. So they can earn a total of 15 points for each day. Grades are entered by the week so they will have 15 or 30 points total for the week depending upon if they have P.E. 1 or 2 times that week. These points determine their end of the quarter grade so it is important that your child comes ready to participate in P.E.
CONTACT: If you have any questions about PE class, please feel free to contact me at school at 587-2500 before or after school or send an email USING the CONTACT FORM ON THIS PAGE.
Thank you for your time and support.
